PRESIDENT TINUBU SENDS VP SHETTIMA TO KEBBI OVER KIDNAPPED SCHOOLGIRLS, CONDOLES THE MILITARY OVER THE DEATH OF SOLDIERS
Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria — Wednesday, 19th November, 2025.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State today to commiserate with the state government and reassure the parents and guardians of the kidnapped schoolgirls that the Federal Government is committed to securing their swift and safe release.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, President Tinubu also extended heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian military following the tragic death of several gallant soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who lost their lives while combating insurgents in Borno State.
According to the statement, the President, who has been fully briefed by military authorities on both incidents, expressed deep sadness over the abduction in Kebbi despite prior intelligence alerts indicating a possible attack by bandits. He commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts made to prevent the kidnapping, describing the security breach as regrettable and troubling.
While condemning the attack that led to the abduction of schoolgirls from a boarding school in Maga, Kebbi State, President Tinubu urged communities—particularly those in security-vulnerable areas—to intensify collaboration with security agencies. He emphasized the importance of timely information sharing with the military, police, and Department of State Services (DSS) to enhance security operations and protect lives.
President Tinubu further stressed that security agencies require active cooperation from citizens to perform optimally.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am depressed with the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” he said.
“I am also depressed that heartless terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed the security agencies to act swiftly and bring the girls back to Kebbi State.
“Our security forces cannot succeed in protecting us if the people don’t cooperate and share information that will help them keep our communities safe. I urge community leaders and our compatriots across the country, especially those in the theatres of operations, to share useful information. Your cooperation is crucial in our fight against these security challenges.”
Vice President Shettima is expected to meet with state officials, visit affected families, and deliver the President’s message of hope, solidarity, and assurance that the Federal Government remains resolute in restoring peace and securing the release of the abducted schoolgirls.
