PRESIDENT TINUBU TO ATTEND G20 SUMMIT IN SOUTH AFRICA, AU-EU SUMMIT IN ANGOLA

Abuja, Nigeria — November 19, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Wednesday depart Abuja for a two-nation official working visit to South Africa and Angola, where he is scheduled to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg and the 7th African Union–European Union (AU-EU) Summit in Luanda.


According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s first engagement will be the G20 Summit, hosted by South Africa under the leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa, the current chair of the group.
The Johannesburg gathering, set for November 22–23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will be held under the theme “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.”


During the summit, leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies, the European Union, the African Union, and invited states will deliberate on pressing global challenges. The three plenary sessions are expected to focus on inclusive economic growth, international trade, financing for development, debt burdens, disaster risk reduction, climate change, just energy transitions, food security, critical mineral development, decent work, and the impact of artificial intelligence on global productivity and stability.


President Tinubu is also expected to engage in a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, aimed at advancing Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening partnerships on regional peace, security, and sustainable development.
Following the conclusion of the G20 Summit, President Tinubu will proceed to Luanda, Angola, for the 7th AU-EU Summit taking place from November 24–25.
The summit will bring together African and European heads of state and government, alongside youth representatives, innovators, and civil society organisations. Discussions will centre on shared priorities, including climate resilience, inclusive economic development, infrastructure expansion, digital transformation, creative industries, manufacturing opportunities, and agribusiness growth across both continents.
The President will be accompanied by key cabinet members including:

Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy
Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development
Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency


President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria upon the completion of both high-level engagements.
