President Tinubu Visits Huawei’s Beijing Research Centre, Unveils DigiTruck Initiative for Nigeria

During a visit to the Beijing Research Centre of Huawei Technologies, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was presented with Huawei’s latest innovation, the DigiTruck—a mobile ICT classroom designed to boost digital literacy in underprivileged communities across Nigeria. The unveiling marks a significant step in advancing digital education and bridging the technology gap in the country.

In a meeting with Huawei’s leadership, led by Mr. Liang Hua, Chairman of the Board, the company announced that the DigiTruck initiative would operate across 10 Nigerian states each year, with the ambitious goal of training at least 3,000 students annually. This project aligns with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s objective to train 3 million technical talents (3MTT), equipping the nation’s youth with vital skills for the evolving economic landscape.

Mr. Hua praised President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting the administration’s recognition of digital technology as a pivotal driver for economic development. He expressed confidence that the DigiTruck initiative would significantly contribute to the government’s digital transformation goals.

Mr. Chris Lu, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Nigeria, also voiced his support for Nigeria’s National Talent Export Programme (NATEP), an initiative aimed at positioning the country as a leading hub for talent outsourcing in Africa. He emphasized Huawei’s commitment to leveraging its ICT expertise to assist the Nigerian government in achieving its policy objectives and advancing the nation’s digital, intelligent, and low-carbon development.

“This is very encouraging for us,” Mr. Lu said. “Huawei is fully prepared to offer its ICT expertise and become a reliable partner of the Nigerian government. In the future, we hope to continuously develop the NOC (Network Operations Center) and expand its capacity to meet the needs of more African markets. This will enable more Nigerian technology talents to serve overseas markets and help achieve the goals of NATEP.”

The President’s visit and Huawei’s commitments underscore the growing partnership between Nigeria and leading global technology firms in advancing the country’s digital economy.
