PSC Warns Against Illegal Fees in NPF Recruitment Process

Abuja, January 6, 2026

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a stern warning to cyber cafés and recruitment agents allegedly extorting unsuspecting applicants seeking to enlist in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commission said its attention had been drawn to disturbing reports of illegal charges running into Fifteen Thousand Naira (₦15,000) and above being demanded from applicants. According to the PSC, some cyber cafés and middlemen falsely claim that the money is shared with the Commission and other government agencies to facilitate recruitment.

The PSC firmly denied any involvement in such practices, stressing that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is absolutely free. The Commission emphasized that no applicant is required to pay a dime at any stage of the application or recruitment process.

Prospective applicants were therefore advised to avoid third-party handlers and submit their applications personally through the official recruitment portal at npfapplication.psc.gov.ng, in order to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
The Commission further warned that anyone found extorting applicants under any guise would be prosecuted in accordance with the law. Victims and members of the public were urged to report such illegal demands to the nearest police station or directly to the Police Service Commission via 07054992071 (SMS/WhatsApp only).

The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent, merit-based, and corruption-free recruitment process into the Nigeria Police Force.
