The Rivers State Government has announced significant changes to its administrative leadership following the resignation of the Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, confirmed the appointment of Dr. Iyingi Brown as Acting Head of Service. Dr. Brown previously served as Permanent Secretary for Welfare in the Office of the Head of Service.

“Dr. Nwaeke’s resignation, while regrettable, has created an opportunity for renewal in our civil service structure,” Vice Admiral Ibas stated. “Dr. Brown will serve in an interim capacity while we conduct a thorough selection process for a permanent replacement.”

New Secretary to State Government Appointed

The Administrator simultaneously announced the appointment of Professor Ibibia Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG). The appointment takes immediate effect.

“Professor Worika brings exceptional qualifications to this role,” Ibas noted. “His distinguished career in academia, international law, and policy advisory positions makes him ideally suited to support our governance objectives.”

Commitment to Stability and Progress

The leadership changes come as Rivers State continues to implement administrative reforms under the Sole Administrator’s guidance.

Vice Admiral Ibas reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining stability, stating: “These appointments reflect our dedication to assembling the best team possible to serve the people of Rivers State. We remain focused on delivering effective governance during this transitional period.”

Transition Process Underway

The Office of the Head of Service has initiated transition procedures to ensure continuity of government operations. All appointments were made following established civil service protocols and in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

The Rivers State Government has assured civil servants and the public that services will continue uninterrupted during this leadership transition. Further announcements regarding additional appointments are expected in the coming weeks.
