Rivers State By-Election
Port Harcourt, Rivers State – February 21, 2026
Bye-elections into Ahoada East State Constituency II and Khana State Constituency II are currently underway in Rivers State, with reports indicating a peaceful and orderly process across the affected areas.
The exercise is being conducted to fill vacancies in the following developments that occurred in 2024.
In Ahoada East State Constituency II, the bye-election became necessary after the resignation of former lawmaker Edison Ehie. Ehie stepped down from the Assembly to serve as Chief of Staff to Governor in 2024, thereby creating a vacancy in the constituency.
Similarly, in Khana State Constituency II, the seat became vacant following the death of former Assembly member Dibabari Loolo in 2024. His passing necessitated the conduct of a bye-election to ensure continued representation for the people of the constituency in the state legislature.
Across both constituencies, the electoral process is progressing peacefully. Security operatives have been deployed to various polling units to maintain law and order, while electoral officials are overseeing the voting exercise in line with established guidelines.
Residents of Ahoada East and Khana constituencies turned out to exercise their civic responsibilities, expressing optimism that the outcome of the elections will further strengthen grassroots representation and democratic governance in Rivers State.
