How to develop self-confidence in public speaking
Self-confidence has been the major problem of some people all over the world.
What is self-confidence?
This is the feeling of trust in one’s ability, quality and judgment. Self-confidence comes in when we believe in ourselves to carry out a task without disappointment. Many people lack confidence in themselves and so, feel inferior that they aren’t capable of the task. Let’s talk about some steps to becoming self-confident.
Steps to become self-confident in public speaking
- Start with a strong and persistent desire.
The truth is that, many have strong desires in different areas of life but if you are aiming to be great in public speaking, the first thing to do is to have strong passion for it. Start by telling yourself that you can do it no matter what it takes, be optimistic towards your goal and watch it coming into manifestation.
2. Know thoroughly what you are going to talk about.
Unless a person has thought and planned what to talk about, he can’t feel very comfortable when he faces his audience. Just like the blind leading a blind, you will never be able to make a great presentation if you don’t plan well. When a presentation isn’t planned well, it results into stuttering or playing with hands as mostly seen and this can sure tamper with your self-confidence.
Speaking from the brighter side, if a presentation has been learnt well, you would sure be very confident in yourself knowing that you can deliver a mind blowing speech to your audience.
3. Act confident.
A famous American psychologist once said, so to feel brave, act as if we were brave, use all of our will to that end, and a courage fit will very likely replace the fit of fear.
Apply Professor James’ advice. To develop courage when you are facing an audience, act as if you already had it. Of course, unless you are prepared, all the acting in the world will avail but a little.
Draw yourself up to your full height, look your audience straight in the eyes, and begin to talk as confidently as if every one of them owed you money. Do this and the chances are ten to one that you will soon be master of the occasion and master of yourself.
- Practice! Practice! Practice!
The last point we have to make is emphatically the most important. Even though you forget everything you have read so far, do remember this: the first way, the last way, the never-failing way to develop self-confidence in speaking is to speak. You can never become a master in anything without starting it and keep practicing. You have to practice till you are perfect.
Apply this four tips and watch yourself becoming confident in everything you do.
