Senator Seriake Dickson Defects from PDP to NDC

Abuja, Nigeria – March 6, 2026

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dickson announced his defection during a media briefing held in Abuja, where he cited deep divisions within the PDP as the primary reason for his decision.

According to the senator, the internal crisis and irreconcilable differences within the party had significantly weakened its structure and cohesion.

He stated that the situation had effectively “shrunk the umbrella,” a reference to the party’s symbol, noting that it could no longer accommodate many of its members, including himself.

Dickson explained that his decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress was guided by the need to align with a political platform that reflects his vision and values going forward.

The development marks a significant political shift for the former **Henry Seriake Dickson, who previously served as the governor of Bayelsa State before his election to the Senate.

Political observers say the move could have implications for the political dynamics within Bayelsa State and the broader landscape of opposition politics in Nigeria.
