SENSITISATION TOUR: DG NAFIC URGES TROOPS TO LEVERAGE WELFARE SCHEMES, COMMENDS OPHK OPERATIONS

Maiduguri, Borno State | March 23, 2026
The Director General of the Nigerian Army Finance Incorporation (NAFIC), Julius Osifo, has urged troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) to take full advantage of existing welfare and financial schemes aimed at enhancing their well-being and operational effectiveness.
Major General Osifo made the call during a sensitisation visit to troops at the Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force (North East) OPHK, located at the Maimalari Military Cantonment in Maiduguri.
He explained that NAFIC is responsible for managing key welfare initiatives of the Nigerian Army, including the Benevolent Fund, Group Life Assurance Scheme, and other support packages designed to assist personnel in cases of injury, permanent disability, or death in service.
The DG noted that the sensitisation programme covered critical areas such as the Nigerian Army Personnel Loan Scheme, the Chief of Army Staff Personnel Loan Programme, activities of the Directorate of Non-Public Funds (DNPF), and the establishment of the Nigerian Army Microfinance Bank. He emphasized that the initiative was designed to educate troops on their entitlements, responsibilities, and available benefits.
According to him, increased awareness of these schemes would significantly boost troop morale and fighting spirit, thereby enhancing their effectiveness in ongoing military operations.
Osifo also commended the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North East OPHK, Abdusalam Abubakar, for his leadership and operational achievements in the theatre. He noted that sustained offensive operations have continued to degrade terrorist capabilities and restore public confidence in the Armed Forces, despite isolated setbacks.
In his remarks, the Theatre Commander appreciated the DG NAFIC for the visit, describing it as timely, particularly at a critical phase of ongoing dry season operations. He disclosed that troops have recorded significant successes, neutralising about 300 terrorists through coordinated operations and superior firepower.
Major General Abubakar added that improved awareness of welfare packages has contributed to boosting troop morale, as personnel are reassured of adequate support in times of need. He affirmed that the welfare initiatives align with the “Soldier First Culture” championed by the Chief of Army Staff, aimed at prioritising the well-being of personnel.
The visit underscores NAFIC’s commitment to promoting professionalism, strengthening awareness of welfare schemes, and supporting sustained operational success in the fight against insurgency in the North-East region.
Highlights of the visit included the inspection of a quarter guard, an interactive session with officers, the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
