Sokoto Distributes 102 Trucks of Fertilizer at Subsidized Rates to Dry Season Farmers
Sokoto , Tuesday
The Sokoto State Government has procured a total of one hundred and two trucks of Urea and NPK fertilisers for distribution to farmers across the state as part of efforts to boost dry-season farming and enhance food security.
Under the distribution arrangement, each of the state’s Local Government Areas is allocated two trucks of Urea fertiliser and one truck of NPK fertiliser. The fertilisers are to be sold strictly to genuine dry-season farmers at highly subsidised rates to ensure affordability and increased agricultural productivity.
A bag of Urea fertiliser is being sold at Nineteen Thousand Naira (₦19,000), while a bag of NPK fertiliser is sold at Eighteen Thousand Naira (₦18,000).
Governor Ahmed Aliyu reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to transforming agricultural production in Sokoto State as a pathway to achieving sustainable food security, not only for the state but for Nigeria at large. He emphasized that agriculture remains a key pillar of his government’s development agenda.
The Governor further disclosed that critical irrigation infrastructure projects, including the Lugu Dam and Kware Irrigation Project, would soon be completed to support year-round farming activities. He noted that these projects align with the government’s Nine-Point Smart Agenda, aimed at driving economic growth, job creation, and self-sufficiency in food production.
Representatives of the farmers commended the Sokoto State Government for its sustained interventions in the agricultural sector. They described the fertiliser distribution as timely and impactful, noting that it would significantly improve yields during the dry season while also strengthening other critical sectors of the state’s economy.
The initiative is expected to further empower farmers, enhance food availability, and reinforce Sokoto State’s position as a key agricultural hub in the country.
