SON AND BPP SIGN MOU TO PROMOTE “NIGERIA FIRST” IN PUBLIC PROCUREMENT
Abuja, Nigeria — December 11, 2025
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the application of Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) within Federal Government procurement processes, reinforcing the Federal Government’s Nigeria First policy.
In a joint statement signed by Talatu Ethan, Director of Corporate Affairs (SON), and Zira Zakka Nagga, Head of Press and Public Relations (BPP), both agencies confirmed that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the BPP Headquarters in Abuja.
The MoU was endorsed by the Director-General of BPP, Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, FCILT, ACFE, and the Director-General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, ACTI, FCA, FMSN.
According to the statement, the agreement establishes a coordinated framework to ensure that all goods, works, and services procured by the Federal Government meet relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards. It also seeks to promote the adoption of local content and expand the use of Made-in-Nigeria products that adhere to approved quality benchmarks.
With the signing of this MoU, both SON and BPP reaffirm their commitment to enhancing the quality, reliability, and safety of government procurement outcomes. The collaboration is also expected to deepen transparency, promote competitiveness, and ensure value-for-money across public sector projects—key pillars of the Nigeria First policy.
The partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening national industrial capacity, supporting local manufacturers, and ensuring that public procurement contributes more directly to Nigeria’s economic development.
