Speaker Abbas Charges Security Agencies to Rescue Kidnapped Kurmin Wali Worshippers
Abuja, January 23, 2026
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has charged the nation’s security agencies to intensify efforts toward the immediate rescue of more than one hundred worshippers abducted by suspected terrorists in Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Speaker strongly condemned the attack on churches in the community, describing it as a heinous act and a troubling reflection of the worsening security situation in parts of the country. He expressed grave concern over the increasing wave of mass kidnappings, particularly those targeting soft locations such as schools and places of worship.
Speaker Abbas urged the security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to secure the safe release of the abducted worshippers and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. He emphasized that Nigerians must be able to worship freely without fear or intimidation.
While acknowledging the security challenges confronting the nation, the Speaker expressed confidence in the capacity of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to address insecurity. He called for collective efforts by government at all levels, security agencies, and citizens to make Nigeria safe for lives, property, and businesses.
The Speaker also commended the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, for what he described as courage and decisive leadership in responding to the incident and providing direction at the sub-national level during this critical period.
Rt. Hon. Abbas concluded by praying for the safe return of the abducted worshippers to their families and community, while urging Nigerians to remain united and hopeful as efforts continue to overcome the nation’s security challenges.
