Stay Away from Blast Scenes to Avoid Health Consequences, Sokoto Govt Warns Residents
Sokoto, Nigeria — December 28, 2025
The Sokoto State Government has warned communities affected by insecurity to desist from visiting areas hit by explosives, citing serious health risks associated with such actions.
The warning was contained in a statement signed by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, and made available to journalists in the state.
According to the statement, the advisory became necessary following reports that residents of Jabo Town trooped to the scene of Thursday’s blast shortly after the incident occurred. The government noted that exposure to blast sites poses significant dangers to both human lives and the environment.
Experts, the statement said, have identified several health implications linked to exposure to explosive materials, particularly when they are poorly handled. These include skin irritation or burns caused by contact with certain chemicals, respiratory problems resulting from inhalation of toxic fumes, and potential toxicity from ingestion or prolonged exposure to explosive residues.
The state government reiterated its determination to continue safeguarding the lives of the people of Sokoto State, regardless of their location, and stressed that public cooperation is critical to achieving this goal.
It further directed local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and religious leaders in all high-risk areas to intensify public enlightenment campaigns on the dangers associated with visiting blast scenes.
In addition, local government authorities were instructed to ensure that areas affected by explosions are promptly cordoned off and made inaccessible to residents to prevent avoidable health hazards.
The Sokoto State Government reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to securing the entire state and appealed for their continued support and cooperation in the ongoing efforts to address insecurity.
