STRATEGIC COOPERATION IN DIGITAL BORDER MANAGEMENT

Abuja, Nigeria — March 24, 2026

The Nigeria Customs Service and His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs have strengthened bilateral ties through a strategic cooperation agreement focused on digital border management.

The partnership, highlighted in an executive briefing, underscores a shared commitment to enhancing trade facilitation, improving border security and leveraging technology to modernise customs operations in both countries.

The agreement is expected to drive the adoption of advanced digital solutions aimed at streamlining cargo processing, improving compliance mechanisms and curbing smuggling and other cross-border crimes. It also reflects a broader effort to align Nigeria’s customs processes with global best practices.

Through this collaboration, both agencies will engage in knowledge exchange, capacity building and technical support, enabling the Nigeria Customs Service to strengthen its operational efficiency and service delivery.

The initiative has received backing from the Federal Government, with stakeholders noting that it represents a significant step toward boosting economic growth, enhancing revenue generation and securing Nigeria’s borders in an increasingly digital global trade environment.
