The 47th Regular Meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Food Security (NCAFS)

Kaduna, Nigeria – November 5, 2025

Is currently underway in Kaduna, bringing together federal and state government officials, agribusiness leaders, researchers, and development partners to chart new strategies for Nigeria’s agricultural transformation.

Organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), the high-level forum focuses on advancing national efforts toward food sovereignty, agricultural ecosystem transformation, and improved nutrition security.
The meeting, themed “Achieving Food Sovereignty and Revolutionising the Agricultural Ecosystem,” underscores the government’s renewed commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s food systems in the face of mounting challenges such as climate change, supply chain disruptions, rising inflation, and dependence on food imports.
Ministers of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari and Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, are attending the session alongside commissioners of agriculture from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Discussions have centered on strategies to boost productivity, enhance value chains, and ensure sustainable livelihoods for smallholder farmers who form the backbone of the nation’s food supply.

Renewed Commitments and Emerging Strategies
Federal and state representatives reaffirmed their commitment to fortify national food systems through targeted investments in irrigation infrastructure, quality seed production, mechanization, and agro-processing value chains.

Officials also highlighted the pivotal role of technology and innovation in driving precision agriculture, improving extension services, and reducing post-harvest losses that continue to undermine food availability and farmer incomes.
Participants, including experts from research institutions and international development agencies, are expected to produce actionable recommendations aimed at achieving self-sufficiency, sustainability, and resilience across Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.
The Kaduna meeting marks a crucial step in aligning policies and partnerships toward realising Nigeria’s vision of food security and economic diversification through agriculture.
