The heart part 5 by Kendrick Lamar

“THE HEART” PART 5 by KENDRICK LAMAR
The heart part 5 was directed by Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free. He released the album few days before the release of Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers via his new Oklama website, stating that Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers would be his last release on TDE. He is the first and only rapper ever to win a Pulitzer Prize.
Kendrick Lamar’s music is so densely packed with symbolism and deeper meaning that it requires detailed analysis. An erotic 1976 hit, “I want you” by Marvin Gaye is played while he embodies the character of different icons. The five minutes track was released on Sunday evening alongside a music video.
He employs the use of deep fake technology created by a company founded by South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker deep Voodoo Studios. He mutates into O.J Simpson, Kanye West, Jussie Smollett, Kobe Bryant, Will Smith and Nipsey Hussle as he raps from their different perspectives.
Kendrick appears himself in the first verse sounding from his own perspective before switching into that of others. He starts by thanking his fans, all those who gave a listening ear to his perspective as he is seen rapping in front of a red background.
As red basically is seen as danger, the ‘red’ background therefore shows the insecurities, deaths and other endangering qualities which Kendrick and other icons he morphed into, faced.
After starting slowly and softly, he then kicks off;
I come from a generation of pain, where murder is minor;
This depicts the society where he comes from showing less concern about murder cases. Murder is considered a norm as he witnessed his first murder at the age of 5. When one would even think that the incident won’t repeat itself, he then witnessed another murder scene three years later at the age of 8.
In his chorus;
But I want you to want me too (I want, I want, I want, I want)
I want the hood to want me back (I want, I want, I want, I want)
He pleads for recognition and acceptance not only for himself but for others whose face he mutates into while rapping. (O.J Simpson, Kanye West, Jussie Smollett, Kobe Bryant, Will Smith and Nipsey Hussle)
To let y’all know what a n**** look like in a bulletproof Rover
In my mama’s sofa was a doo-doo popper
Hair trigger, walk up closer, ain’t no Photoshoppin’;
Rapping from O.J Simpson’s perspective, he then switches to Kanye West’s;
Friends bipolar, grab you by your pockets. No option if you froze up, always play the offense.
Recounting West’s countless talks on his struggle of being bipolar, surrounded by opportunists that might be taking advantage of him.
Kendrick Lamar then switches into the controversial actor Jussie Smollett in a curious passage recounting Lamar’s own experience finding out about Nipsey Hussle’s passing while he was in Argentina. He also remarks on the seemingly recurring cycle of rappers dying in the verse;
History repeats again. Make amends, then find a n*gga with the same skin to do it.
But that’s the culture, crack a bottle
Hard to deal with the pain when you’re sober
By tomorrow, we forget the remains, we start over

Smollett is still alive, but one could interpret his career definitely isn’t after his conflict in 2019 where he staged a fake hate crime attack and filled a false police report.
In the land where hurt people hurt more people. F*ck callin’ it culture
In this line, Kendrick tries in making a reference to Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy awards. He repudiates the notion of killing the black as culture. It should be called what it is and not hiding it under culture.
Kendrick then mutates into the late Kobe Bryant, speaking as if he’s remembering the accomplishments of his life;
Paid dues, made rules, change outta love. Them same views made schools change curriculums.
He then relays his pain over Nipsey’s murder;
I’m in Argentina wiping my tears full of confusion.
Water in between us, another peer’s been executed.
After Hussle’s death, Kendrick has not spoken a word in public till after some years when he finally broke his silence and poured out his expression with this song “The heart part 5”.
He stated that he forgives his killers, in the line;
And to the killer that sped up my demise, I forgive you.
just know your soul’s in question
I seen the pain in your pupil when that trigger had squeezed
And though you did me gruesome, I was surely relieved

Kendrick Lamar takes 15 seconds to inhale and exhale in the middle of the song which is the number to detect a heartbeat.
He cuts the drum for Nipsey and Kobe, symbolizing the stoppage of a human heart beat.
Later in verse 3, he embodies the late rapper Nipsey Hussle where he was acting like someone who is speaking from the afterlife in the lines;
To my brother, to my kids, I’m in Heaven
To my mother, to my sis, I’m in Heaven
To my father, to my wife, I am serious, this is Heaven.
While Kendrick deepfakes Nipsey, he adviced Nipsey’s friend to count their blessings, encouraging his fans to make them investments. He tells Nipsey’s brother, “Black Sam” to make sure his kids watch all the interviews.
Kendrick also shows Nipsey’s display of his kind gesture even as he is dead in the line;
And Sam, I’ll be watchin’ over you

He then ends by saying;
Look for salvation when troubles get real
‘Cause you can’t help the world until you help yourself.
And I can’t blame the hood the day that I was killed
Y’all had to see it, that’s the only way to feel
And though my physical won’t reap the benefits
The energy that carry on emits still
I want you
The different perspectives by which Kendrick Lamar deep faked into, gives an idea on the opening title, ‘I Am All of us’.
