The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has urged stakeholders to boost investments in Nigeria’s creative sector, highlighting its immense potential to drive inclusive economic growth, create jobs, and enhance the country’s competitiveness on the global stage.
Abuja, October 8, 2025
Speaking at the 31st Nigerian Economic Summit held in Abuja, Minister Musawa underscored the growing contribution of the creative economy, noting that recent statistics reveal it accounts for approximately 2.3% of Nigeria’s national GDP and provides employment to over 4.2 million people across diverse creative industries.
She pointed to key success stories within the sector, including Nollywood’s rise as one of the world’s largest film industries, the burgeoning Nigerian fashion industry, and the global popularity of Afrobeats music, as clear indicators of the sector’s untapped growth potential.
Despite these achievements, Minister Musawa acknowledged several challenges impeding the creative economy’s expansion. These include limited access to funding, inadequate infrastructure, and regulatory and policy hurdles. She called on financial institutions to develop tailored financial products that meet the unique needs of creative entrepreneurs and urged for increased investments in critical infrastructure and skills development programs.
Further, the minister emphasized the importance of a supportive regulatory environment that encourages innovation and creativity. She reassured stakeholders that her ministry remains committed to driving reforms in policy and regulation to nurture and sustain the creative industry’s growth.
Her call to action aims to position Nigeria’s creative economy as a vibrant and integral part of the nation’s broader economic development strategy.
