Three Casualties After Lagos High-Rise Fire
Lagos, Nigeria — December 28, 2025
Three bodies have been recovered following a fire outbreak at the Great Nigeria Insurance building on Martin Street, Lagos Island, authorities confirmed.
According to a casualty report released by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the deceased include one adult female and two males. The bodies were recovered from the collapsed section of the structure three days after the incident.
The report also noted that eight males, including a firefighter, sustained varying degrees of injuries during the rescue and response operations. All were treated at a hospital and subsequently discharged.
In addition, five other individuals—three males and two females—suffered minor injuries. They received first aid at the scene and were released without further medical intervention.
Search and rescue operations remain ongoing as emergency teams continue efforts to locate other reportedly trapped victims. The operation involves LASEMA Response Teams working alongside the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and the Lagos State Government Fire and Rescue Service.
Authorities said updates will be provided as rescue efforts continue and more information becomes available.
