Tinubu Focused on Shared Prosperity, Not 2027 Election – Presidency

The Presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu’s primary focus is on delivering shared prosperity to Nigerians rather than preparing for the 2027 general elections. The statement, made by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, comes amid a wave of political defections and speculation about the formation of a coalition to challenge Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.

Defections and Political Speculation

Recent political developments, including the defection of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), have fueled speculation about a potential coalition to challenge Tinubu in 2027. Political analysts suggest that these defections may be part of a broader strategy to consolidate opposition forces ahead of the next election.

However, the Presidency has dismissed these speculations, emphasizing that Tinubu’s priorities lie in implementing reforms and improving the economy rather than engaging in early election preparations.

Presidency’s Statement

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sunday Dare outlined Tinubu’s commitment to delivering tangible results for Nigerians.

“President Tinubu is not worried about the next election. He’s worried about the shared prosperity that he can bring to Nigerians. He’s worried about how the reforms he has put in place will yield the necessary impact. He is concerned about what happens to the economy of this country eventually. That’s the focus,” Dare stated.

He highlighted several economic indicators to underscore the administration’s progress, including an increase in foreign reserves, a decline in inflation, a rise in trade surplus, and a boost in exports.

“We’ve seen our foreign reserves go up. We’ve seen inflation come down. We’ve seen our trade surplus go up. We’ve seen exports go up and imports drop. We’ve seen the investments that have been attracted—over 50 billion. We are seeing prices dropping,” Dare added.

Tinubu’s Vision for Nigeria

Dare emphasized that Tinubu’s goal is to leave a lasting impact on the lives of Nigerians by turning the economy around.

“We have clear data, and you have a President that is clearly in the driver’s seat, and he has stayed the course of the decisions he has taken. And I think that the next election is not really in his view right now. It’s how to make sure that at the end of his first term, he can sit back and say, look, ‘I have impacted the lives of Nigerians. I have turned this economy around,’” the post reads.

Implications for Nigerian Politics

The Presidency’s statement reflects Tinubu’s determination to prioritize governance and economic recovery over political maneuvering. By focusing on reforms and economic stability, Tinubu aims to build a legacy of shared prosperity and sustainable development.

However, the defections and growing opposition activity suggest that the political landscape remains dynamic, with potential challenges ahead for the APC. The administration’s ability to deliver on its promises will likely play a crucial role in shaping public opinion and determining the outcome of future elections.

Conclusion

As President Bola Tinubu’s administration continues to implement reforms and address economic challenges, the Presidency has made it clear that his primary focus is on delivering shared prosperity to Nigerians rather than preparing for the 2027 elections. While political defections and opposition activity persist, Tinubu’s commitment to economic recovery and governance remains steadfast, with the aim of leaving a lasting positive impact on the nation.
