A harrowing incident unfolded on Sunday evening along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway as gunmen abducted over 20 travellers and inflicted injuries, leaving one victim hospitalized. The attack occurred between the Sagamu Area Command and Ilisan township, marking another troubling escalation in highway insecurity.

Wemmy Osude, Chairman of Ilisan Development Council, confirmed the distressing events to PUNCH Online, revealing that one resident of Ilisan Remo sustained a gunshot wound to the knee and was undergoing treatment at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.
“Information reaching me right now confirmed a kidnapping incident between the Area Command and Ilisan City Gate (formerly Delabo),” Osude stated. “Other victims were taken into the bush. While waiting for additional information, please contact your loved ones who may be plying that road at about this time to be cautious.”
Osude further reassured that the injured resident was in stable condition and emphasized ongoing efforts by security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the release of those abducted.
This incident follows closely on the heels of recent criminal activities in the region, including the abduction of two individuals and the tragic killing of Professor Yinka Olomojobi of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, at the Ajadeh Event Centre along Iperu-Sagamu Road. Professor Olomojobi was renowned for his work in human rights and gender law.
Efforts to obtain a statement from SP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, were unsuccessful as calls to her line went unanswered.
The escalating insecurity along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and vigilance among commuters traveling through the area.
