Tuggar Commends Nigeria’s UNGA Statement as Bold and Inclusive

New York, September 27, 2025

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has hailed the national statement delivered at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) by Vice President Kashim Shettima, calling it “bold and inclusive,” and deeply reflective of Africa’s contemporary challenges and aspirations.
Speaking in a statement issued in New York, Minister Tuggar praised the address—delivered on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—for striking a strategic balance between Nigeria’s national priorities and its commitments to regional stability and development.

He emphasized that the Vice President’s remarks strongly positioned Nigeria as a proactive global actor, advocating for overdue reforms within the United Nations, equitable economic frameworks, and a shared global responsibility for peace and security—particularly within West Africa.
“The statement was not only bold, but also inclusive, rooted in African realities. It put forward the voice of a continent that demands fairness, partnership, and a seat at the table,” Tuggar noted.

Highlighting Nigeria’s legacy and ongoing contributions to international peacekeeping, Tuggar described the country as both “a guarantor of peace for others and a defender of peace at home.” He reaffirmed that Nigeria remains committed to multilateral cooperation as a cornerstone of its foreign policy.

The Foreign Minister added that the speech served as a powerful reminder to the international community that global safety and prosperity are interconnected.
“No country is safe until all are safe, and no region can prosper unless all its people are included,” Tuggar stated.

The 80th UNGA marks a pivotal moment for global cooperation, with Nigeria reinforcing its leadership role on the international stage and calling for a more inclusive and just world order.
