U.S. Threat on Nigeria: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Urges Calm, Emphasizes Diplomacy and Unity
Abuja, Nigeria — November 6, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration is taking every necessary measure — both diplomatic and domestic — to address the recent developments surrounding alleged misrepresentations of Nigeria’s security situation by certain quarters in the United States.
In a statement released by the Presidency on Thursday, President Tinubu reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transparency, cooperation, and national security. He emphasized that Nigeria remains a sovereign nation determined to defend its image and ensure the safety and prosperity of its citizens.
“Our security institutions are working tirelessly to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians. While challenges exist, it is misleading to portray Nigeria as a nation in crisis. We are engaging all relevant partners to correct these misconceptions and to strengthen our international relationships,” the President said.
President Tinubu noted that the government is utilizing diplomatic channels and international cooperation frameworks to engage with the U.S. and other allies, ensuring that Nigeria’s position is clearly articulated and understood. He also highlighted ongoing reforms in defense, intelligence, and community security aimed at curbing terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality.
Calling for calm, unity, and resilience among Nigerians, the President appealed to citizens not to be swayed by negative narratives or external provocations.
“These are trying times that demand unity of purpose, not division or despair. Together, we will overcome every challenge and emerge stronger as a nation,” he stated.
The Presidency further urged the media, civil society, and opinion leaders to act responsibly and promote factual reporting, stressing that misinformation could undermine national security and international confidence.
As diplomatic engagements continue, observers note that Nigeria’s approach — emphasizing dialogue, transparency, and cooperation — may help diffuse tensions while reinforcing the country’s standing as a key regional power and democratic partner in Africa.
