VP Shettima Advocates Home-Grown Solutions to Africa’s Economic Problems
Davos, Switzerland — January 23, 2026
Vice President Kashim Shettima has advocated the adoption of home-grown solutions to address Africa’s economic challenges, emphasizing innovative, African-led approaches to drive growth, development and shared prosperity across the continent.
The Vice President made the call at a high-level Accra Reset Initiative meeting held on the margins of the ongoing 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He stated that Africa has become the pulse of the world’s demographic and economic future, noting that the continent’s young population and vast potential must be harnessed through deliberate and home-driven policies.
According to Shettima, Africa’s economic transformation will only be sustainable if solutions are conceived, designed and implemented by Africans who understand the continent’s realities, strengths and aspirations.
The Nigerian Vice President welcomed the vision of the Accra Reset Initiative, organised by the President of Ghana, John Mahama, describing it as a bold reimagining of Africa’s shared future. He said the initiative is anchored on African-led cooperation, sovereignty and self-definition, while promoting collective responsibility among African nations.
Shettima added that the forum provides a critical platform for African leaders to rethink development strategies, strengthen regional collaboration and reposition their economies to meet both present and future challenges.
State House Correspondent Abdurrahman Jibrila reports that the essence of the forum is to galvanise support for African governments to reassess their approaches to economic transformation and jointly address the numerous challenges confronting the people across the continent.
