VP Shettima Affirms Tax Reforms Aimed at National Benefit
Reforms poised to enhance revenue generation in investment-friendly climate
Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed that Nigeria’s tax reforms, spearheaded by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are designed to overhaul the system for the collective welfare of all Nigerians.

Dispelling speculations circulating in certain circles, Shettima emphasized, “Our objective is not to hinder any sector of our economy but to establish an administrative framework that ensures the advantages of a robust tax system for all our citizens.”
Speaking on Saturday at the conclusion of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee’s retreat held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, the Vice President, represented by Dr. Aliyu Moddibo Umar, Special Adviser to the President on General Duties (Office of The Vice President), outlined the policy direction of the administration’s tax reforms. He underscored that Nigeria’s fiscal landscape dynamics necessitated a pause and reassessment of the nation’s trajectory.
“Our goal remains the revitalization of revenue generation in Nigeria while fostering an investment-friendly and globally competitive business environment,” Shettima articulated.
Expressing confidence in the committee’s capacity to deliver on its mandate, the Vice President highlighted the importance of the impending task. “We are convened today to transition from the phase of proposal in the committee’s operations to the phase of implementation,” he remarked.
Shettima further stated, “I am confident that both the federal and state governments are prepared to ensure the effective implementation of your reform proposals. We will establish the institutional framework necessary to ensure the adoption of the committee’s consensuses, aligning them with our economic agenda.”
The Vice President’s remarks underscore the administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive economic environment and enhancing revenue generation for national development.
