VP Shettima Departs Abuja for the 79th UNGA in New York
Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for New York to lead Nigeria’s delegation at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The trip comes following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who asked Shettima to represent the country at the global forum while he focuses on urgent domestic issues, including the aftermath of recent floods that have severely impacted several parts of Nigeria.

The General Assembly’s high-level debate, themed “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations,” will take place from September 24 to September 28, 2024.

During the event, Vice President Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, where he is expected to discuss the nation’s ongoing efforts towards sustainable development, peace, and human dignity. Additionally, the Vice President will participate in various key meetings on the sidelines, as well as bilateral discussions with other world leaders and international organizations.
Shettima’s attendance at the 79th UNGA underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to multilateral diplomacy and its active role in addressing global challenges, particularly in areas such as peacebuilding and sustainable development.
