March 18, 2026, Abuja, Nigeria
Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep sorrow over the recent terrorist attack in Borno State, condemning the senseless killing of innocent civilians and reiterating that no religion supports violence against humanity.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Vice President described the attack as “heinous, barbaric, and unacceptable,” extending his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Borno State.
Shettima emphasized that the sanctity of human life remains a core principle shared by all religions, noting that acts of terror and bloodshed are a distortion of faith and must be rejected by all. He called on religious leaders and communities to continue preaching peace, tolerance, and unity in the face of rising insecurity.
“The deliberate targeting of innocent lives is a crime against humanity and a betrayal of the true teachings of any faith. No religion condones such brutality,” he stated.
The Vice President also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to intensifying efforts to combat terrorism and restore lasting peace in the North-East region. He assured citizens that security agencies are working tirelessly to track down those responsible and prevent future attacks.
While urging residents to remain vigilant, Shettima called for unity among Nigerians, stressing that collective resolve is essential in overcoming the threat of terrorism.
He concluded by praying for the repose of the souls of the departed and for strength and comfort for their grieving families.
