Federal Government Approves Promotion of 20,867 Senior Personnel Across Key Security Agencies
In a significant move to boost morale and enhance efficiency within Nigeria’s security and emergency services, the Federal Government has granted the immediate promotion of 20,867 senior personnel across several key agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) also received approval for the promotion of its officers.
The announcement was made on Friday, September 13, by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a press briefing. The minister emphasized that the promotions cut across different ranks within the respective agencies and were part of the government’s broader strategy to improve the welfare and operational capacity of the nation’s security forces.
In addition to the general promotions, Dr. Tunji-Ojo revealed that the government has approved special promotions for selected personnel in recognition of their exceptional service. Two officers from the NCoS, four from the NIS, two from the NSCDC, and one from the FFS were granted special promotions.
“The government recognizes the sacrifices and dedication of these officers in ensuring the security and well-being of our nation. These promotions are well-deserved and represent a token of appreciation for their tireless efforts,” the minister said.
The mass promotion is expected to have a positive impact on the overall performance of the security agencies, encouraging officers to continue their commitment to national service. Dr. Tunji-Ojo also highlighted that the government remains dedicated to improving the working conditions of security personnel and ensuring they receive adequate training and resources to meet evolving challenges.
The promotion exercise comes at a time when the country is grappling with various security challenges, and the elevation of these personnel is seen as a step toward reinforcing the capacity of Nigeria’s security forces to maintain peace and order.
