ZAMFARA SPEAKER, 12 OTHER PDP LAWMAKERS JOIN APC

Gusau, Zamfara State, March 23, 2026

The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Isma’il Moriki, along with 12 other lawmakers of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made during an extraordinary sitting of the House in Gusau, as conveyed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bello Madaro Kurya. According to the Speaker, the decision to join Governor Dauda Lawal in the APC was unanimously taken following leadership disputes and internal crises within the PDP.

During the session, Speaker Moriki read out the resignation letters of the entire group of defecting legislators, emphasizing that they and their teeming supporters, who voted them in during the 2023 general elections, would now align with the APC. He expressed gratitude to their constituents for the continued support and reaffirmed their commitment to serve the people.

The group of defectors includes key leadership positions in the House, such as the Deputy Speaker and Majority Leader. Their defection follows Governor Dauda Lawal’s recent move from the PDP to the APC.

According to the statement, the lawmakers are expected to be formally received into the APC on Tuesday in Gusau alongside Governor Lawal, marking a significant political realignment in Zamfara State.
