Adegbesan Unveils Constituency Empowerment Programme, Distributes Tools, Cash and Educational Materials

The member representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan, has unveiled his 2026 Constituency Empowerment Programme, with the distribution of various empowerment tools, cash grants and educational materials to constituents across the Federal Constituency.
The programme, held in Awa-Ijebu under the theme, “Empowering Lives, Strengthening Livelihoods and Building Sustainable Futures,” was attended by political leaders, traditional and community leaders, beneficiaries and other stakeholders from the three local government areas.
The empowerment package includes 50 chest freezers, 50 sewing machines, 15 motorcycles, ₦50,000 cash grants for traders, 300 six-kilogramme gas cylinders for elderly constituents, 40 hairdryers for artisans, 40 Moniepoint POS machines with ₦50,000 start-up cash each, 50 grinding machines, 20 maize shellers, 20 rice milling machines, 50 automatic and manual sprayers, among other items.
The programme also features the distribution of 5,000 English and 5,000 Mathematics textbooks and several thousands of notebooks to senior secondary school students across the Federal Constituency, as part of Adegbesan’s efforts to support education and improve learning outcomes among young people.
Speaking at the event, Adegbesan said the initiative was designed to provide practical economic support to constituents and help beneficiaries establish or strengthen sustainable means of livelihood.
He, however, urged political and community leaders involved in the distribution process to ensure that the empowerment items get to people who genuinely need them.
According to him, the essence of the programme would be defeated if beneficiaries collected the items only to sell them immediately for personal gain.
He said the items were carefully selected to help beneficiaries build businesses, improve productivity, create employment and become economically independent, stressing that selling the items would deprive them of the long-term benefits of the intervention.
Adegbesan disclosed that he had also facilitated about ₦500 million worth of additional empowerment interventions for constituents, expressing optimism that the projects would be implemented once the necessary funds were released to the contractors handling them.
Highlighting his legislative achievements, Adegbesan drew particular attention to his intervention on the rehabilitation and reconstruction/dualisation of the Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan Road, a project he said resulted from a motion he presented on the floor of the House of Representatives.
He noted that the project has been approved and awarded, with implementation already commencing from the Ibadan axis.
Adegbesan described the project as a major milestone in his legislative representation, noting that the ₦295 billion road project represents a far greater intervention for the constituency than the approximately ₦1 billion statutory constituency/zonal intervention allocation available to a federal lawmaker.
He said the road project would have far-reaching economic benefits for the people of the Federal Constituency and surrounding communities by improving transportation, facilitating trade, reducing travel difficulties and opening up economic opportunities.
He also highlighted other motions and legislative interventions he has pursued at the National Assembly, stressing that his representation is not limited to constituency projects but also involves using legislative influence to attract major federal projects and interventions to the constituency.
The lawmaker urged constituents to continue supporting his representation and give him the opportunity to consolidate on the achievements recorded so far, particularly through his 2027 re-election bid.
Several political and community leaders at the event commended the scale of the empowerment programme and the approach adopted for distributing the items.
Among those present were Hon. Ganiyy Odunoiki, Executive Chairman, Ogun Waterside Local Government; Hon. Adedibu; Hon. Mosun Oladipupo; Dr. Kenny Bello, Managing Director, OGEPPA; the Iyaloja-General of Ijebu-Igbo, Chief Mrs. Motara Omotuke; Otunba Mrs. Toun Oduwole, and other leaders and stakeholders from across the Federal Constituency.
The leaders described the volume and variety of the empowerment items as impressive, noting that the programme demonstrated a commitment to supporting constituents across different sectors, including agriculture, trade, transportation, tailoring, hairdressing and small-scale businesses.
They particularly commended the decision to take the empowerment process to the various wards before final distribution, saying the approach would make it easier to identify genuine beneficiaries and reduce the possibility of the items being diverted to people who do not need them.
They stressed that empowering people at the grassroots level would have a greater impact when beneficiaries are carefully selected based on genuine need and capacity to utilise the tools productively.
The event ended with the inspection, presentation and unveiling of the various empowerment items to various wards, reinforcing Adegbesan’s message of “Empowering Lives, Strengthening Livelihoods and Building Sustainable Futures.”
