Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan Road: A New Economic Gateway for the South-West

Yesterday’s flag-off of the 58-kilometre Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan Road reconstruction and dualisation, is far more than another milestone in Nigeria’s infrastructure development. It is a bold investment in the economic future, connectivity and prosperity of the South-West.

For years, the Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan corridor has remained a critical but challenging route for commuters, farmers, traders, businesses and communities connecting Ogun and Oyo States. Its rehabilitation and dualisation will help remove one of the major obstacles to the smooth movement of people, goods and services across the region.

Importantly, this moment did not come by accident. Hon. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan, Member of the House of Representatives representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, had on March 5, 2025, moved a motion on the floor of the House of Representatives calling attention to the urgent need for the rehabilitation and improvement of the Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan Road. His intervention brought renewed legislative attention to a road that has for years been central to the economic and social life of the people.

What Does This Motion ably moved by Hon. Joseph Adegbesan and flagged-Off by His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Mean for Our People, in Ijebu Ode-Oru-Awa-Ago Iwoye-Mamu, Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, Ogun/Oyo States and South West at large?

For our farmers and traders: It means your produce reaches the markets faster, fresher, and with lower logistics costs, putting more money directly back into your pockets.

For our commuters: It means reclaiming hours lost in traffic—time that can now be spent more productively with your families or growing your businesses.

For our economy: It means Ogun and Oyo states are now more tightly integrated, creating a robust economic corridor that will attract investors, create jobs for our youth, and stimulate local industries along the entire stretch of these roads.
