Nigeria’s 2026 Hajj Operations: Vice President Commends NAHCON

Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has commended the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for its role in the successful conduct of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, describing the commission as a critical institution in ensuring the effectiveness of future Hajj operations.

The Vice President made the remarks on Friday in Abuja while receiving the comprehensive report on the 2026 Hajj exercise from the NAHCON Board, led by its Chairman, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf.

Senator Shettima said the current NAHCON management had demonstrated significant improvements in the organisation and coordination of Hajj operations. According to him, these improvements contributed substantially to the successes recorded during the 2026 pilgrimage.

He also attributed the smooth execution of the exercise to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly his intervention at a critical stage of the Hajj operations. The Vice President expressed appreciation to the President for providing the necessary support that helped NAHCON overcome challenges and deliver what he described as a highly successful and seamless Hajj exercise.

The Vice President stated: “And I must thank Mr President for decisively coming to the rescue of NAHCON. We want to thank him for the support that culminated in such a highly successful and seamless operation.”

Senator Shettima further praised the NAHCON Board, especially its chairman, for demonstrating confidence, leadership and administrative capacity throughout the 2026 exercise. He encouraged the board to maintain the same level of commitment and build on the progress already achieved.

The Vice President’s comments come at a time when Hajj operations globally are experiencing significant changes, with increasing emphasis on technology, improved pilgrim welfare, efficient transportation, accommodation, healthcare and stronger coordination between participating countries and Saudi Arabian authorities.

For Nigeria, the development places greater responsibility on NAHCON to continuously improve the experience of Nigerian pilgrims. The commission is expected to use the lessons from the 2026 exercise to strengthen planning, logistics, communication and service delivery in subsequent Hajj operations.

The submission of the comprehensive report also provides an opportunity for the government and relevant stakeholders to assess the successes and challenges of the 2026 pilgrimage and identify areas requiring further improvement.

Overall, the Vice President’s remarks highlight the Federal Government’s continued focus on strengthening Nigeria’s Hajj administration and ensuring that Nigerian pilgrims receive more efficient and well-coordinated services during future pilgrimages.
