2026 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE: FIRST LADY OLUREMI TINUBU URGES NIGERIANS TO EMBRACE UNITY, REJECT DIVISION

First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to reject division and embrace values that promote unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence as the country joins the world to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Peace.

In her message marking the day on Monday, Mrs Tinubu said this year’s theme, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” highlights the need for collective commitment to building and sustaining peace.  

The First Lady stressed that lasting peace requires the participation of everyone, noting that peace begins in the home and extends to schools, workplaces and communities.

She identified tolerance, patience, justice, mutual respect and dialogue as important values for strengthening peaceful coexistence.

Mrs Tinubu called on Nigerians to shun actions and attitudes capable of creating division, while promoting the values that unite the country.

“I encourage all Nigerians to reject division and embrace the values that unite us as one people. Let us invest in peace through our words, choices, and actions every day.”

She further emphasised that peace should be reflected in the everyday choices and conduct of citizens, rather than being limited to public declarations.

The International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21 to promote peace and non-violence among nations and peoples.
