NIS PROCESSES 8,552 PASSPORT APPLICATIONS IN FOUR COUNTRIES THROUGH TARGETED  INTERVENTION EXERCISES

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has processed passport applications for 8,552 Nigerians across the United States, Canada, Qatar and the United Kingdom through targeted diaspora passport intervention exercises.

According to the NIS, the interventions were carried out under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to bring passport services closer to Nigerians living abroad and improve service delivery.  

The completed exercises in the United States, Canada and Qatar enrolled 535, 2,257 and 751 applicants respectively, while the ongoing exercise in the United Kingdom had enrolled 5,099 applicants as of the latest update.  

The UK intervention covers London and Manchester, with passport production and dispatch being undertaken concurrently to facilitate timely delivery to applicants.

The NIS said the exercises were conducted in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and representatives of Nigerian communities in the affected countries.

The Service also reaffirmed its commitment to providing accessible and efficient passport services to Nigerians in the diaspora. It noted that digital application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, remain operational alongside existing home-delivery services.
