OBI/KWANKWASO TALKS NIGERIA, THE KADUNA TOWNHALL

The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, held an interactive town hall meeting with citizens in Kaduna as part of their ongoing engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections. The meeting followed a similar town-hall engagement in Port Harcourt. 

Before the meeting, Obi visited the Sheikh Muhammad Sambo Memorial Islamic Institute in Rigachikun, Kaduna, before joining Kwankwaso and other party candidates for the public engagement. The town hall provided an opportunity for participants to raise concerns, ask questions and discuss issues affecting their communities and the country. 

According to Obi, the issues discussed included insecurity, poverty, healthcare, education, corruption, fuel costs and the wider state of the Nigerian economy. He said the party’s proposed priorities include national unity, poverty reduction, increased investment in healthcare and education, and stronger efforts to address insecurity so that displaced Nigerians can safely return to their homes, communities and farms. 

Obi also spoke about fuel costs and the subsidy regime, calling for action against what he described as corruption and inefficiencies associated with the system. He said the broader objective should be to create an economy that enables Nigerians to live and work with greater economic security and dignity. 

The NDC presidential candidate further called on other political leaders and opponents to engage directly with citizens and listen to their concerns. He argued that direct interaction between leaders and citizens is an important part of people-centred democratic governance. 

The Kaduna engagement is part of the Obi-Kwankwaso team’s wider grassroots outreach as the 2027 election approaches, with the candidates using town-hall meetings to present their positions and hear directly from citizens.
