ALMAJIRI/OUT-OF-SCHOOL CHILDREN EDUCATION: STAKEHOLDERS SEEK SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS IN BORNO STATE

Stakeholders in Borno State have called for sustainable and coordinated solutions to address the education challenges facing Almajiri and out-of-school children in the state.

The call was made during a stakeholders’ engagement focused on improving access to quality education and ensuring that vulnerable children are not left behind.

Participants emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, traditional and religious leaders, communities, development partners and other relevant stakeholders.

They also advocated measures that would address the factors contributing to children dropping out of school, while strengthening existing educational programmes for Almajiri children.

Stakeholders stressed that sustainable interventions should combine access to formal and non-formal education with vocational and skills-development opportunities, particularly for children from vulnerable communities.

They further urged increased investment in education infrastructure, teacher development, child protection and social support programmes to improve enrolment, retention and learning outcomes.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of collective action in providing children across Borno State with opportunities to acquire education and skills necessary for their future.
