NCoS CONTAINS CHOLERA OUTBREAK AT KURMAWA- KANO CUSTODIAL CENTRE

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has contained a reported cholera outbreak at the Kurmawa Custodial Centre in Kano State, following measures implemented to prevent further transmission of the disease among inmates and staff.

The Service intensified medical surveillance, isolation and treatment of suspected cases, while strengthening hygiene and sanitation measures within the facility. Health personnel were also mobilised to monitor the situation and provide necessary medical attention to affected individuals.

Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the custodial centre to prevent a resurgence of the outbreak, particularly given the importance of maintaining clean water, proper sanitation and effective waste disposal in a densely populated correctional environment.

The NCoS has also emphasised the need for cooperation among inmates, staff and health authorities in maintaining preventive measures and ensuring that any new suspected cases are promptly reported and treated.
