IGP DISU DEPLOYS DIG OPERATIONS, TWO CPS ON RESCUE MISSION OF ABDUCTED 20 PROSPECTIVE NYSC MEMBERS IN IMO STATE

The Nigeria Police Force has intensified its search and rescue operation following the abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and other passengers along the Owerri–Onitsha Road in Imo State.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has directed the deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, as well as two Commissioners of Police, to take charge of efforts to locate and rescue the victims.

As part of the operation, the police team visited the affected area to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the incident. They also reviewed the deployment of personnel and security resources in the area while strengthening intelligence-gathering efforts aimed at identifying the abductors, locating their hideouts and determining the whereabouts of the victims.

The Police Force has further deployed additional tactical teams and operational assets to strategic locations along the affected area. The operation is being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies to improve coordination and increase the chances of rescuing the victims.

The DIG Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, assured that security personnel would sustain the operation until all the abducted persons are safely rescued and those responsible for the crime are apprehended and brought to justice.

The police also appealed to residents, motorists and other members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and useful information that could help in locating the victims or identifying the perpetrators.

The development has heightened security efforts along the Owerri–Onitsha corridor, as authorities continue to work toward the safe recovery of the abducted NYSC prospective members and other passengers.
