Alhaji Abdul-Hameed Femi Omotayo OmoOwo, is an Ijebu-born engineer and businessman whose professional journey has crossed continents while remaining firmly connected to Nigeria. He spent 18 years in Europe pursuing his education and building his career before returning to Nigeria in 2000. Since then, he has built his career, business interests and community initiatives in Nigeria. In 2026, he entered politics as the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District.

Born and raised in Ijebuland, OmoOwo left home with the ambition to acquire knowledge and build a professional career. That journey took him through leading international oil and gas companies, including Shell, Halliburton, AMEC and Talisman Energy. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Dundee, Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College London and Business Administration at the University of Aberdeen.
When he returned to Nigeria in 2000, OmoOwo became Managing Director of Orwell Oil and Gas International. What began as an engineering equipment business developed into an indigenous oil and gas enterprise and later became part of AOS Orwell, where he remains a Director. His career has combined international industry experience with the building of Nigerian enterprise.
That professional background has also shaped his approach to developing people. In 2018, AOS Orwell worked with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board and the Lagos State Electricity Board on a six-month Smart Electrical Engineering Training programme for young Nigerian engineers. Fifty engineers took part in the initial programme, with Omotayo representing AOS Orwell at the launch and presenting the training modules.
His interest in education extends beyond engineering. Through initiatives including the Market School and an annual holiday coaching and learning programme, more than 1,000 students have received educational support. The programmes have also exposed young people to emerging areas of knowledge, including artificial intelligence.
These interventions form part of a wider record built outside government. For much of his adult life, OmoOwo worked in the private sector, built businesses and supported programmes focused on education and young people. His entry into politics therefore comes after decades of professional and community experience rather than as the beginning of his public identity.
He emerged as the PDP candidate for Ogun East at the party’s primary election in Ijebu-Ode on May 20, 2026. The district comprises nine local government areas across Ijebu, Remo and Ogun Waterside.
For OmoOwo, the political journey also brings him back to the communities that shaped him. His connection to Ijebuland predates his professional career abroad and has remained part of his identity through the years he spent building a life and career outside Nigeria. His return in 2000 marked another chapter in that relationship, this time as a professional building his career and business in his home country.
Ogun East needs a new type of leadership, clear direction and deliberate growth. The district needs representation backed by proven experience, tested capacity and the ability to understand challenges and work towards practical solutions.
That is the experience OmoOwo is bringing into the contest. His career has taken him from Ijebuland to Europe and back to Nigeria, through leading international oil and gas companies and the development of an indigenous enterprise, and into programmes that have invested in young Nigerians.
His decision to seek the Senate is a move from building in the private sector to serving in public office. For Ijebu, Remo and Ogun Waterside, he brings a record shaped by professional experience, business capacity, education and community engagement at a time when the district is looking for direction and deliberate growth.
