Boat Mishap: BNSG Suspends Buruku Boat Union, Arrests Operator Over Mishap

The Benue State Government has suspended the Buruku Boat Union following a boat mishap in the state, while the operator of the vessel involved has been arrested as authorities intensify investigations into the incident.
The government said the measures were taken as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and prevent further loss of lives on the state’s waterways.

The suspension of the boat union is expected to allow authorities to review its operations, including compliance with safety regulations, while the arrest of the operator will assist investigators in determining whether negligence, overloading, poor maintenance or other factors contributed to the mishap.
The incident has renewed concerns over waterway safety and the need for boat operators to strictly comply with established safety standards, including the use of life jackets, proper passenger manifests and adherence to approved passenger limits.
Authorities are expected to continue the investigation and take further action based on its findings, while efforts remain focused on ensuring greater safety for residents who depend on waterways for transportation.:::
