The two-day meeting, held at the Government House in Maiduguri from October 2 to 3, 2026, focused on issues affecting the region’s security, governance and socio-economic development.

The meeting brought together Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, alongside their host, Governor Zulum.

The governors deliberated on strengthening good governance, promoting peaceful coexistence, improving security and addressing the socio-economic challenges confronting communities across the North-East.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the forum issued an 11-point communiqué, reaffirming the governors’ commitment to regional cooperation and coordinated action. Among the resolutions was a plan to establish a North-East Air shuttle to improve transportation and economic connectivity across the region.

The governors also addressed infrastructure, energy, education, transportation, youth development and security. They called for stronger inter-state cooperation, intelligence sharing and coordinated responses to emerging security threats while stressing the importance of creating education, vocational training, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for young people.

The North-East Governors’ Forum, which comprises Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states, continues to serve as a platform for joint policy action and regional development initiatives. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in Gombe State on December 18–19, 2026.
