MILITARY AIRCRAFT CRASH: DEFENCE MINISTER MOURNS FALLEN PERSONNEL

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), has expressed deep sorrow over the fatal crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State, describing the incident as a painful loss to the Armed Forces and the nation.
The aircraft, identified as NAF 931, was on a routine mission from Benin City to Lagos when it crashed near the Naval Base in Igbokoda. Initial official information indicated that 25 passengers and seven crew members were on board.

Musa extended condolences to the families and loved ones of the fallen personnel, as well as the leadership and entire community of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He described the deceased officers and airmen as dedicated patriots who demonstrated professionalism, loyalty and commitment to the defence of Nigeria.
The Defence Minister also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The probe is expected to determine the cause of the accident and identify measures needed to strengthen operational safety across military aviation units.

The tragedy has also prompted a national mourning period, with President Bola Tinubu directing that the Nigerian Air Force immediately investigate the crash and declaring three days of national mourning for the personnel who died.
Authorities have urged the public to rely on official information as investigations continue, while the nation mourns the loss of the military personnel and other occupants of the aircraft.
