The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja concerning the party’s leadership structure and the political ambition of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party argued that the matter before the court goes beyond its internal leadership dispute or the political ambition of any individual, describing it as an issue with broader implications for Nigeria’s democracy.

The ADC also questioned the timing of the judgment, which came barely a day after its rally in Sokoto State, describing the development as suspicious.

The party further relied on an earlier judgment delivered on July 2, 2026, by Justice Musa Liman of the same court, which it said affirmed the legitimacy of the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee.

According to the ADC, a court of coordinate jurisdiction cannot overturn the decision of another court of equal jurisdiction, insisting that the latest judgment raises concerns about judicial consistency.

The party announced its intention to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal, urging the judiciary to uphold democratic principles and ensure fairness in its decisions on political matters.

It also appealed to its members across the country to remain calm, maintain peace and abide by the law while the party pursues available legal remedies.
