President Tinubu to Inaugurate Funtua Inland Dry Port in Katsina State

President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate the Funtua Inland Dry Port in Katsina State on May 9th, according to Mrs. Rebecca Adamu, Assistant Director of the Public Relations Unit at the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC).

The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Funtua IDP Project Site in Katsina, will be attended by key stakeholders and distinguished guests.

Mrs. Adamu highlighted the significance of establishing an inland dry port, noting that it would bring shipping and port services closer to importers and exporters in the hinterland. She emphasized that this move would alleviate congestion at seaports, create job opportunities, and generate substantial revenue for the government.

She further stated, “It is also in line with the performance bond signed by the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola. It is worthy to note that, this initiative is part of NSC’ Key Performance Indicator (KPI), to deliver the Funtua Inland Dry Port Project before the end of the 1st Quarter, 2024.”

The inauguration of the Funtua Inland Dry Port underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing trade facilitation, promoting economic development, and boosting infrastructure across the country.

The establishment of inland dry ports is a strategic move aimed at decentralizing port operations and extending maritime services to landlocked regions, ultimately driving growth and efficiency in Nigeria’s logistics and transportation sector.

The event is expected to mark a significant milestone in the development of Katsina State’s infrastructure and contribute to the nation’s overall economic progress.
