Benin City, Nigeria – The recently reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philips Shaibu, made headlines on Friday by revealing that he has been unofficially affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) for some time.

During an appearance on Arise TV’s morning show, Shaibu clarified that although he has not formally severed ties with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his support for the APC’s governorship candidate signals his political realignment.
“In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party,” Shaibu stated.
He emphasized that his decision to support the APC candidate stems from his current lack of alignment with the PDP, despite his official membership status remaining unchanged.
Shaibu’s comments come amid growing speculation about his political future and potential defection to the APC. His support for the APC candidate underscores a significant shift in Edo State’s political landscape, hinting at possible realignments ahead of the next elections.
