REPORT ON THE OFFICIAL PRESENTATION OF THE STAFF OF OFFICE TO HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS OBA SUNDAY BAMIDELE JOHNSON ADETOLA, THE KUNUSI OF IDOKUNUSI COMMUNITY
History was made in Idokunusi Community as His Royal Highness, Oba Sunday Bamidele Johnson Adetola, was officially presented with the Staff of Office by the Ogun State Government, formally recognizing him as the Kunusi of Idokunusi Community.
The occasion marked the successful conclusion of a journey that spanned over three decades. Although Kabiyesi had been duly elected by his people many years ago, the community witnessed a prolonged tussle over the Obaship, which delayed the necessary administrative and legal processes required for official government recognition. As a result, the presentation of the Staff of Office, which ordinarily would have come much earlier, was deferred until the resolution of the issues surrounding the traditional stool.
With the presentation of the Staff of Office, the Ogun State Government has now officially affirmed the traditional authority of His Royal Highness, bringing to a close a significant chapter in the history of Idokunusi Community. This recognition not only validates the revered monarch’s position but also paves the way for greater unity, peace and accelerated development within the community.
The colourful ceremony attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials, community stakeholders, family members and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate this long-awaited milestone. The atmosphere was filled with joy, thanksgiving, cultural displays, and prayers for a peaceful and prosperous reign.
Among those who congratulated the monarch was Bashorun Seyi Abiodun Bashorun of Ijebu Imusin,Hon. Engr. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan, FNSE, Member of the House of Representatives representing Ijebu easf, Ijebu north and Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, who described the official recognition as a well-deserved achievement and a victory for the entire Idokunusi Community.
As the community celebrates this historic accomplishment, Sunrise Global Media (SGM) respectfully appeals to all sons and daughters of Idokunusi, irrespective of past affiliations or positions during the Obaship process, to embrace peace, reconciliation and unity. The contest for the royal stool was undoubtedly challenging, but with the government’s official recognition and presentation of the Staff of Office, it is now time to put the past behind us.
Let bygones be bygones. The future of Idokunusi Community depends on the collective efforts of every stakeholder. We therefore urge everyone to close the chapter of division, extend hands of fellowship to one another and work together as one united family toward the progress, peace, and sustainable development of our beloved community.
