ADEGBESAN EMPOWERS OGUN WATERSIDE YOUTHS WITH TECH, AI AND INNOVATION SKILLS

Young people from Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency have received a major boost in digital skills and technological capacity following the successful conclusion of the Ogun Waterside Tech, AI & Innovation Bootcamp 1.0, organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogun Waterside Branch, in conjunction with Hon. (Engr.) Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan, Member representing Ijebu North, Ijebu East and Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The three-day programme, held from August 13 to 15, 2026, at the Computer Training and Skills Acquisition Center, Abigi, was designed to equip youths with relevant digital competencies, promote innovation and creativity, and prepare participants for emerging opportunities in the technology-driven economy.
Participants were trained in practical areas including Data Analysis, Video Editing and Graphics Design, among other digital and technology-related skills.
Speaking at the programme, Hon. Adegbesan described the initiative as an investment in the future of young people across Ogun Waterside, stressing that the acquisition of relevant skills remained critical to youth empowerment, employability and economic independence.
Adegbesan further announced the donation of 10 laptops to participants of the bootcamp, noting that access to appropriate digital tools was essential for the youths to practise and develop the skills acquired during the training.
He assured the participants that the initiative was not a one-off programme, promising that the Ogun Waterside Tech, AI & Innovation Bootcamp would continue to hold annually.
According to him, the annual programme would provide an avenue for more young people within the constituency to acquire practical skills and take advantage of emerging opportunities in technology, artificial intelligence, digital creativity and innovation.
The lawmaker also highlighted some of his interventions in education and youth development, informing participants that he had facilitated the sponsorship and purchase of more than 400 NECO/GCE forms for youths across Ogun Waterside, enabling beneficiaries to further their education and improve their prospects.
He also disclosed that 10 youths from Ogun Waterside had received scholarships to study at Cresfield School of Nursing, describing the intervention as part of his broader commitment to investing in the human capital development of constituents.
Adegbesan said his youth-focused initiatives were guided by the conviction that sustainable development could only be achieved when young people were equipped with the knowledge, skills and opportunities required to compete effectively in a changing world.
The lawmaker encouraged the participants to take the training seriously, continue learning beyond the bootcamp and utilise the knowledge acquired to create opportunities for themselves and others.
He urged them to embrace technology not only as a means of securing employment but also as a platform for entrepreneurship, innovation and problem-solving within their communities.
The NYCN Ogun Waterside Branch expressed appreciation to Hon. Adegbesan for partnering with the youth organisation to deliver the programme, describing the bootcamp as a significant step towards bridging the digital skills gap among young people in the constituency.
The programme ended with renewed calls for greater investment in digital education, innovation and youth entrepreneurship across Ogun Waterside.
The successful completion of the inaugural bootcamp marks a new chapter in youth-focused digital empowerment in the constituency, with participants expected to deploy their newly acquired skills in education, employment, entrepreneurship and community development.
