OPERATION LAFIYA NAKOWA: Troops of 6 Brigade Dislodge Bandits’ Hideouts, Recover Ammunition and Motorcycle in Taraba

Jalingo, Taraba State – October 5, 2025

In a decisive move against banditry and criminality, troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully conducted clearance operations targeting bandits’ enclaves in Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Taraba State.

The operations were part of the ongoing OPERATION LAFIYA NAKOWA, a coordinated military campaign aimed at flushing out hibernating bandits and restoring security in the region. Acting on credible intelligence reports about bandits’ movements and the destruction of farmlands in the area, troops launched simultaneous offensives on 5 October 2025.
Team A advanced into the Tarhembe and Tornyi areas in Tati, Takum LGA, where they encountered armed resistance. However, the bandits were forced to retreat into nearby forests due to the superior firepower of the troops. During the follow-up exploitation, the soldiers recovered:

• 4 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
• 1 AK-47 magazine
• 1 motorcycle

Team B simultaneously swept through several communities in Ussa LGA — including Lissam, Kutukok, Konkan, Fank Utaih, Kijwu, Kutukwo, Kwesati, and Alaha — where they dismantled and destroyed suspected bandit camps. Although no direct contact with criminals was reported in this axis, the destruction of these hideouts significantly disrupts their operational capacity.
Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their tactical proficiency and resilience. He emphasized the importance of civilian cooperation in sustaining the momentum against criminal elements and called on residents to continue providing timely and actionable intelligence.

“These clearance operations are yielding results, disrupting the activities of criminal elements, denying them freedom of action, and reassuring our local communities of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property,” General Uwa stated.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its resolve to continue its offensive against all forms of criminality in Taraba State and the wider Northeast region until peace and normalcy are fully restored.
