TRAIN DERAILMENT IN AGBOR LINKED TO VANDALISM; ALL PASSENGERS EVACUATED WITHOUT HURT

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that a train operating along the Warri-Itakpe rail line derailed near Agbor, Delta State, on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
In an official statement, the Managing Director of the NRC, Kayode Opeifa, disclosed that preliminary investigations point to suspected track vandalism as the likely cause of the derailment. He noted that a comprehensive investigation has commenced to determine the root cause and prevent a recurrence.
“All passengers on board were safely evacuated, and no injuries or casualties were recorded,” Opeifa stated, assuring the public that safety measures were promptly activated following the incident.
The NRC also announced the temporary suspension of train services along the Warri-Itakpe corridor to enable a full technical assessment and repairs to the damaged section of the track.
According to the information released, two of the seven coaches involved in the trip were affected by the derailment.
The corporation expressed regret over the disruption caused to passengers and the traveling public, extending apologies for any inconvenience. Opeifa further reaffirmed the NRC’s commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and improved railway services across the country.
Authorities have appealed to communities along the railway routes to assist in safeguarding national infrastructure and report any suspicious activities around rail tracks to prevent future incidents.
