NDLEA DISMANTLES DRUG CARTEL, ARRAIGNS TWO KINGPINS IN ENUGU COURT OVER METHAMPHETAMINE LAB

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate allegedly operating a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Enugu State and arraigned two suspected kingpins before the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu.

The development followed an intelligence-led operation by NDLEA operatives, who uncovered the suspected illicit drug production facility and arrested two men allegedly linked to the syndicate.
The agency said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to disrupt the activities of organised drug trafficking networks involved in the production, distribution and trafficking of illicit substances across Nigeria.

The suspects were subsequently brought before the court to face charges connected with the unlawful production and trafficking of methamphetamine. The prosecution is expected to present evidence relating to the alleged operation of the clandestine laboratory and the roles of the defendants in the drug network.
Methamphetamine is a powerful synthetic stimulant with significant health and addiction risks. The discovery of clandestine laboratories is therefore a major concern for law-enforcement authorities because local production can facilitate wider distribution of the substance.

The NDLEA said its intelligence-driven approach is focused not only on arresting street-level drug dealers but also on identifying and dismantling the networks responsible for financing, producing and distributing illicit drugs.
The agency reiterated its commitment to pursuing drug traffickers through investigation and prosecution, while strengthening operations aimed at preventing the manufacture and circulation of controlled substances in the country.

The arraignment marks another step in the NDLEA’s campaign against organised drug trafficking and clandestine drug manufacturing, with the agency urging continued cooperation from members of the public in providing credible information that can assist in identifying drug-related activities.
