Gbajabiamila Cleared by Police, DSS, ICPC over Fake Agency Allegations

Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said investigations by the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) cleared him of wrongdoing over allegations linked to a purported government agency.

The controversy centred on the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), which the Presidency had disowned as a non-existent organisation. Gbajabiamila was questioned by the ICPC in July as part of investigations into the matter, but the commission said he was not arrested and had voluntarily honoured its invitation.  

Gbajabiamila said the investigations ultimately found no wrongdoing on his part. He also stated that the investigative reports were in the public domain and thanked President Tinubu for allowing due process to take its course.  

Separately, a House of Representatives ad hoc committee said its preliminary findings found no evidence that Gbajabiamila authorised, established or participated in the activities of the purported organisation. The committee also reported that the alleged appointment letter linking the organisation to his office was fabricated.  

The controversy arose after the alleged director-general of the purported agency, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, made allegations against Gbajabiamila. Adeyemi has faced criminal proceedings over allegations including forgery, impersonation and conspiracy, while the allegations against Gbajabiamila have been denied.
